Year after year, it surprises me how reluctant I am to get into summer fashion, and after a quick pulse check of my Google of choice, TikTok, it is clear that I am not alone. Whether you don’t like to show too much skin or you just don’t know exactly how to put together the perfect outfit without your faithful layers, let’s face it: summer style is difficult.
As a personal stylist in New York, I spend countless hours browsing websites and stores in the hope of finding the perfect piece for a client. After a while, you start building some kind of internal catalog — which brand has what and which parts I see repeating over and over again. It becomes much easier to spot a trend when you dive into the market. Although it can be especially easy to get carried away with summer trends, I always advise you to focus on items that you can always wear for at least one more season or two. You will thank yourself next spring as you prepare for your seasonal wardrobe change and come across a deliberately curated selection instead of a heavy and trendy mix.
1. a graphic tank
An underrated one, if you ask me. At this point, we’ve all seen the embroidered Loewe tank top, and while I agree that it’s a great summer staple, I can’t really bring myself to spend that much money on a cotton tank top. So, last year I made it my personal Mission to find a similar Option — and boy, did I outdo myself. I bought the Erina reformation knitted armor and literally wore it with everything during the warm months. Since tops have been a particularly difficult category lately, I was delighted to find an affordable summer top option that is as meaningful as it is comfortable.
2. Bermuda
As controversial as this style is, Bermuda is not going anywhere anytime soon. Even better: I am finding more and more short options in Bermuda as the temperatures continue to rise. I recently bought the mid-length denim shorts from J. Crew and I was totally obsessed. And it’s safe to say that the girls agree with this (No, seriously, I’ve been stopped on the street several times this week to accept compliments). My favorite way to wear them? With a tight top, high boots and a trendy belt. You’re welcome.
3. a colorful crochet bag
We have already noted that summer fashion is often less exciting, but this is where Accessories come into play. There is nothing revolutionary about a crochet bag for the summer, but what sparks my interest this Season is the introduction of additional elements such as bright colors and pearl applications. Although I haven’t really worn a woven bag in the past, this season’s range is fresh and exciting. In fact, I have more than one Option that I plan to buy this Season.
